Reddit Max Campaign Results: Evidence and Testing Lessons

Quick answer

Reddit's published Max campaign evidence supports testing the product, not promising a universal improvement. Its early comparison covered 17 split tests conducted from June through August 2025, with reported average CPA and conversion improvements. Max became available to all advertisers on September 3, 2026. Evaluate it against a comparable campaign using your own qualified outcomes and measurement settings.

What the published comparison actually measured

Reddit's January 2026 Max announcement reported 17% lower CPA and 27% more conversions across 17 split tests. The tests ran during June through August 2025 and compared Max with standard campaigns using similar targeting and creative conditions.

Those figures describe Reddit's reported test sample. They are not a guarantee for a new account, an average for every advertiser or evidence from an independently audited three-month RECHO study. The historical URL of this article should not be read as a claim that RECHO ran that experiment.

The September 2026 availability announcement confirms the broader rollout and specifies 21-day comparisons in the underlying tests. Keep the sample and timeframe attached whenever citing the results.

Read individual advertiser examples separately

The January announcement also described Brooks Running's Ghost 17 campaign, reporting a 37% lower CPC and 27% more clicks over 21 days. That is a specific advertiser example, not a purchase or profit claim. Brooks Running is not presented here as a RECHO client.

The useful lesson is how to read the evidence: identify the objective, comparison and outcome. A traffic improvement can justify further investigation, but it does not automatically demonstrate better customer acquisition economics. Check what was measured before borrowing the headline.

Avoid combining selected examples into a fictional industry average. Different campaigns may have different objectives, audiences, attribution settings and budgets. Without comparable data, a table of impressive percentages can be more misleading than informative.

Design a test around one business question

Decide whether you are evaluating more qualified conversions at a similar cost, a lower cost for comparable quality or a reduction in management effort while maintaining performance. Those are different questions and may require different reporting.

Use comparable offers, destinations and measurement settings. Where an appropriate supported experiment is available, use it to reduce avoidable differences. If you use sequential periods, record seasonal changes, promotions and other factors that limit causal interpretation.

Do not change the landing page, offer, event definition and campaign approach at the same time and then attribute the full difference to Max. Keep a change log and state what the comparison can reasonably establish.

Check conversion quality before judging efficiency

For lead generation, distinguish a recorded form submission from a qualified inquiry and an accepted opportunity. For ecommerce, review purchases with the same treatment of cancellations, refunds and revenue across the comparison.

Confirm that events are firing as intended and are not duplicated. If browser and server events are both used, verify the implementation's handling of duplicates. A sudden improvement caused by an extra event firing is not campaign performance.

Report the underlying counts alongside rates. A small number of conversions can produce large percentage swings. The business should understand both the apparent improvement and the uncertainty in the sample.

Read automation as a change in work, not the end of work

Automation can change how targeting, creative and budget decisions are executed. The advertiser still owns the offer, source assets, destination, measurement and interpretation. It still needs to review whether generated or selected combinations accurately describe the product.

Track creative variety and message consistency. If a campaign can combine headlines and media, make sure each combination remains truthful and relevant to the destination. Avoid relying on a disclaimer in one asset to qualify a claim that might appear without it.

Make the expansion decision explicit

Do not assume a successful test scales indefinitely. Monitor the additional outcomes as budget grows and preserve the original comparison for context. For budgeting calculations, read our Reddit Ads cost guide.

FAQ

Are the published Max improvements guaranteed?

No. They describe a reported test sample and selected advertiser examples. Your campaign needs its own evaluation with comparable measurement and qualified outcomes.

Is Max still limited to beta advertisers?

Reddit announced availability to all advertisers on September 3, 2026. Check the current account interface and documentation for supported settings and campaign requirements.

Does lower CPC prove better ROI?

No. Click cost is a delivery metric. Evaluate downstream quality, customer economics and the costs included in your return calculation.

Did RECHO conduct the 17 split tests?

No. Those tests were reported by Reddit. This article interprets that published evidence and proposes a framework for an advertiser's own evaluation.
